Distinct features aerobic phototrophic activity occurs. Bacteriochlorophyll a is present aerobically but is not synthesized under anaerobic conditions. Cell suspension spectra show a large absorption band at 805-807 nm and a smaller band at 868-873 nm susceptible to chloramphenicol, penicillin, tetracycline, streptomycin and polymyxin B
