School of Social Work launchs New MSW
The School of Social Work is launching its new Master of
Social Work (MSW) program with 13 students who are now
beginning their first semester.
Representatives from the Children's Aid Society, Hiatus
House, Canadian Mental Health Association, Glengarda Child
and Family Services, the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, local
hospitals and other agencies will celebrated this milestone
with School of Social Work faculty and students at a
reception in Katzman Lounge, Vanier Hall.
"There has been tremendous community interest in this
program with number of local professionals who want to take
on new challenges in their workplace, "says School of Social
Work Director Frank Hawkins.
He says this opportunity for graduate studies in Social Work
fits in with the changing demands of professional practice.
Dr. Bruce Bidgood is chair of the master's program. "We
have designed the master's program for part-time study now
to allow those who are in the profession to upgrade without
interrupting their careers," he said.
The focus of the MSW is in health, gerontology and child
welfare. This emphasis is in keeping with the University of
Windsor's social justice pinnacle, and will contribute to
collaborative research around that theme.
