The Newsletter The Retirees' Newsletter is put out by the Faculty, Librarian Administrator Retirees' Association of the University of Windsor, four times per year: -- in March, June, September and December. Its main purpose is to inform our retirees on matters of direct interest to them such as their pensions, benefits, association activities, etc. and, equally, to provide a channel for retirees to keep in touch with each other and with outside groups, including the Faculty Association and the University. The Newsletter welcomes from readers their comments, arguments, contributions and creative work. Editor Datta Pillay Send items for inclusion, to Datta Pillay, 4015 Villa Borghese, Windsor, ON. President's Report
First, I must express my own appreciation and that of the
executive to Datta Pillay on his accepting the onerous task
of Newsletter Editor when Jim Linton resigned. It is difficult
to find words to express our deep appreciation to Datta. The
Newsletter is THE most important vehicle we have for
communicating with the full membership. It serves as the
thread that keeps us in contact. I am sure I reflect the
feelings of the whole membership in expressing our
appreciation to Datta.
We are very concerned over the departure of Jim
Butler and Jim Skinner. They have been very supportive of
retirees, thus their replacements will be very important to all
members of WURA. We will follow, with great interest, the
hiring of individuals to fill these most important positions.
They, with the Faculty Association, will be important in
making any improvements for retirees. Addionally we are
watching, with interest, the Administrations plans for creating
an infrastructure to handle the increasing work load
associated with retirees issues - we are becoming a larger
and larger group. Hopefully, the Administration will create
sufficient positions to be able to do an adequate job on
issues of concern to ALL retirees.
Your executive has been debating the future
direction of WURA. It is their view that there is a danger of
trying to address too many issues. This often results in
nothing happening anywhere. With that in mind we ask
retirees to bring ideas, to the Fall General Meeting, on what
they think should be the central focus of the Associations
activities. The executive will be bringing, to the Fall
Meetings, recommendations to concentrate the efforts of the
Association on, at most, three areas. Please come prepared
to discuss this question.
I apologize for the brevity of the report but I only
returned to Windsor on Friday 30 August, 2002 and will be
leaving for England tomorrow Thusday 5 September, 2002.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Fall general
Meeting.
