Palestinian Justice Minister Visits UWindsor Campus Palestinian Justice Minister Ali Khashan met on campus with members of the University of Windsor’s faculty and administration to discuss Canada’s contributions to the Palestinian development agenda in supporting the rule of law and access to justice there. The Palestinian National Authority (PLA) is working with UWindsor Professor Reem Bahdi and Professor Mudar Kassis of the West Bank’s Birzeit University, on a Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)-funded project to promote judicial independence and human dignity. The Judicial Independence and Human Dignity Initiative includes developing judicial education programing and supporting the development of a strategic analysis capacity within the Palestinian Ministry of Justice. Minister Khashan was in Canada to expand co-operation between Canadian and Palestinian institutions. His priorities include upgrading the infrastructure of court buildings, forensic laboratories and autopsy facilities. His objectives also include ensuring better enforcement of court judgments; improving case and records management; providing continuous education for judges, prosecutors and judicial sector employees, and enhancing the work of the General Prosecution. |
