Student Group Hoping To Create a Frenzy in Favour of Fair Trade

The UWindsor chapter of Engineers Without Borders held a number of events at its Fair Trade Frenzy, including the distribution of literature and free samples of fairly traded chocolate and coffee. Products that are certified as Fair Trade promise a living wage to producers, EWB members said. The goal was to engage the campus in discussion of ethical purchasing decisions, as part of a national effort to raise the issue of fair trade.

"We should all look for the black and white logo and make the shift to Fair Trade products," said organizer Robin Stratas, a fourth-year student in the drama in education and community program. "Making the small shift from your regular brew to Fair Trade coffee is a simple daily shift that can immensely change the lives of farmers around the globe."

Events included a rally and the sale by the local Ten Thousand Villages store of fairly traded handicrafts from around the world outside the CAW Student Centre.
