BUSINESS PROFESSOR RECOGNIZED AS OUTSTANDING MENTOR
Dr. Martha Reavley BComm ’81, MBA ’82,
a professor
in the Odette School of Business, is the 2011 recipient of
the Alumni Association’s Excellence in Mentoring Award.
The award recognizes faculty who offer personal, academic
and professional guidance to students, and
who contribute to their development up to
and following graduation.
Dr. Reavley is known as an
outstanding, student-centred teacher.
She builds her student’s leadership skills
by placing them on teams which must
create and execute innovative fundraising
projects. Over the years, these teams have
contributed more than $750,000 to local
community groups.
According to former student Gerjon
Kalaci BSc ’05, MBA ’09, LLB ’09, “Dr. Reavley consistently
helps her students well beyond the purposes of the courses
that she teaches. She spends countless hours assisting them
with career aspirations, thought-provoking discussions and
supporting them through personal challenges.”
Reavley designed the Women’s Enterprise Skills
Training Centre which has successfully offered training,
education and employment opportunities
to unemployed and under-employed visible
minority women for more than 25 years.
“I have had the opportunity to experience
Dr. Reavley’s teaching and mentorship at both
the undergraduate and graduate level,”
says Monique Diotte BComm ’08,
MBA ’10. “Today, she remains a strong figure
in the community, always providing advice to
students and alumni long past graduation.”
Reavley provides community leadership
through her membership on the fundraising
committee for the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation
and with Workforce Windsor Essex.
