Who is a Lancer?
A video making the
rounds on the internet answers that
question with scores of current students
and alumni declaring their UWindsor
affiliation, loud and proud.
Producer George Kalivas of the office
of public affairs and communications filmed
students across campus and grads in all
different fields saying “I’m a Lancer!” He
said the result shows the diversity of ways
to demonstrate Lancer pride.
“The video features alumni who are
prominent in various fields, and the students
who will make their own marks on the world,”
Kalivas said. “I wanted to show that if you
have attended this University, you’re a Lancer.”
He said that claiming the Lancer identity
extends well beyond varsity sports teams
and alumni.
“Lancers could be from all walks of
life,” he said. “It’s not just athletics – it’s
everybody.”
One of his subjects, Ishika Towfic,
agrees. The fourth-year mechanical
engineering student volunteered to
participate in the project, saying she
considers herself a Lancer, too.
“Our capstone design team is named the
Lancers,” she said. “We’ll be wearing our
school colours in the SAE Aero competition
this April.”
Kalivas posted the video to the
UWindsor YouTube channel in early March.

Classmates returned to campus on October 14, 15, & 16, 2011 after 50 years and enjoyed

with Dean Allan Conway and watched four presentations and demonstrations highlighting
the school’s business and wider community involvement. Next, they boarded a coach for a
trip around Essex County and lunch at Sprucewood Winery and then returned to the city
core for dinner at the prestigious Windsor Club.
Their reunion generated close to
$6,000.00
for scholarships which was designated to
the Commerce Class of ’61 Prize Fund.
