D’AMORE TO HELM LANCER FOOTBALL
GINO FRACAS MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
After engineering Lancer football’s first playoff
appearance since 2006 last fall,
interim coach Joe
D’Amore has been named head coach, the
fourth in the team’s 42-year history.
“We are very excited to have Joe
continue in the capacity of head coach,”
says Gord Grace, director of athletics. “We
look forward to Joe and his staff providing
outstanding coaching and leadership to
our athletes.”
This past season D’Amore coached
the Lancers to a 5-3 record and into the
playoffs where his squad knocked off
the Ottawa Gee Gees 50-33 in the OUA
quarterfinals. The team was narrowly edged in the Yates
Cup Semi-Finals.
Coach D’Amore’s team boasted six players named
as OUA All-stars: Jordan Brescacin; Seamus Postuma;
Shea Pierre; Matt McGarva; Austin Kennedy; and Cory
Fernandes. Brescacin, Postuma and McGarva were also
named CIS Football All-Canadians as the best in the
country. Under his direction, the Lancers had the league’s
third-ranked offence, averaging 474 yards a game and the
fewest turnovers.
OUA named D’Amore the Tuffy Knight
Award winner as the OUA Football Coach
of the Year. He was also a finalist for the
CIS Football National Coach of the Year.
“I feel very honoured,” says D’Amore.
“I look forward to working with the staff
in the athletic department to provide an
outstanding experience for our student-
athletes.”
D’Amore joined the Lancers in 2009.
Previously, he was offensive co-ordinator
for the Essex Ravens of the Ontario Varsity Football
League, and at different times, coached the Villanova
Wildcats and the Sandwich Sabres high school teams.
He played wide receiver for the Lancers from 1996-
2000, and professional football with the Carolina Rhinos in
the Arena Football League and the Fursty Razorbacks in
the German Football League.
On June 24, 2012, the third annual Gino Fracas
Memorial Golf Tournament
will be held at The
Ambassador Golf Club in Windsor, Ont. The proceeds
benefit The Gino Fracas Memorial Football Scholarship and
the University of Windsor Football Program. The Fracas
scholarship honours Fracas’ contribution as Lancer football
coach and the Fracas award honours an exceptional Lancer
football student athlete. Registration costs $250 and is
limited. Please contact Joe D’Amore, head coach, Lancer
Football, for more information at
