perspectiveofmanagement. In thisedition
of theOdetteResearchReviewwehighlight
our facultymembers’ contributions to twoof
these challenges: Sustainable Industry, and

SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRY
Inbusiness
“sustainability”has
become synonymous
withmanaging toachieve
successona “triple
bottom line” (a term
coinedby JohnElkington
in1998 in thebook
“Cannibalswith forks”)
whichmeansensuring
company performance
that achieveseconomic,
environmental and
social goals. Moving froma focusona single
bottom line–profit – toa triplebottom line
requires companies to change their strategies,
engagewithand report toanextended range
of stakeholders, and redesign their operations.
Our researchhas contributed tounderstanding
this shift inmanagement thought andprovided
guidance to companies seeking to create
sustainable value. Examplesof ourwork (the
