AUTO21 Renewal
AUTO21 Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE), hosted at the University of Windsor, received a $23.2 million vote of confidence when the federal government announced renewal of a four-year funding strategy for the automotive-focused research centre.

The NCE supports more than 260 researchers and 500 student researchers working on 41 auto-related research and development projects at 42 Canadian universities and institutions. Projects are supported by more than $11 million a year in combined public and private sector funding in areas of health, safety and injury prevention; societal issues; materials and manufacturing; design processes; powertrains, and fuels and emissions, as well as intelligent systems and sensors.

At UWindsor, 46 graduate and post-graduate students work on two projects supported by 22 researchers and a Health, Safety and Injury Prevention theme co-ordinator.

“AUTO21’s accomplishments during the past seven years reflect the quality of its research program and the commitment of its researchers, students and partner organizations,” said Dr. Frise. “As our host institution, the University of Windsor has been an integral part of the Network’s success, and we appreciate the ongoing support as we move forward in meeting the needs of Canada’s automotive industry.”
