Roman Gr. Maev was born in 1945 in Moscow, USSR. He received combined
B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in theoretical solid state physics from Moscow
Physical Engineering Institute in 1970, and Ph.D. in 1973 in the theory
of semiconductivity from Physical N.Lebedev Institute of the USSR Academy
of Science. In 1978 he was titled Associate Professor of Applied Physics
and Biophysics and since 1979 Deputy-Head of the Chair at the Moscow Physical-Technical
Institute, lecturer and supervisor of graduate and post-graduate students.
In 1984, Dr. Maev established and leaded the Biophysical Introscopy Lab.
of N. Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics, Moscow. Since 1987 to the
present time he has been the Head of the Acoustic Microscopy Center, Russian
Academy od Sciences founded on the base of his Lab., where he does both
scientific and administrative roles. Since 1994, he is also associate
with the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada as an Adjunct Professor
and a Head of Canadian-Russian collaboration project. Since 1995 he is
a Director of Ultrasonic Research Lab., University of Windsor, and since
1996 he is a Full Faculty Professor with Tenure, Department of Physics,
University of Windsor. His research interests involve ultrasonic imaging
and acoustic microscopy, acousto-optics and advanced material characterisation
for which he published over 190 articles, several reviews, book editor,
holds 5 Russian patents and 12 invention disclosures.
Dr. Maev is Fellow of the Acoustical Scientific Council of the Russian
Academy of Sciences, Chief of the Commission of Russian Chemical Society.
He is a member of the Commission of UNESCO program on the Man and Biospheere,
also a Member of the Expert group of the World Health Organization (WHO)
on the nonradioactive diagnostic's physical fields, Senior member of the
IEEE, the Canadian Association of Physicists and the Canadian Acoustical
Society. Dr. Maev was the recipient of the American Institute of Ultrasound
in Medicine/World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Award
(1989), the World Microscopical Society Ernst Abbe Medal (1988) and Annual
Award for the best research results, the USSRA Academy of Sciences (1986).
