Jim Hunter
is the new Head Coach of
the Windsor Lancers Women’s Hockey
program.
Widely respected as one of the top
local coaches in Windsor and Essex
County, Hunter previously spent two
years leading the Tecumseh Chiefs,
taking them to the Sutherland Cup Jr. B
Championship in 2008.
For his leadership that season, he
was named the 2007/2008 Ontario
Hockey Association Coach of the Year
and the GOHL Coach of the Year.
An experienced coach at all levels,
Hunter also served for four seasons
as an assistant coach and director of
player development with the Windsor
Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League.
During his time with the Spitfires,
Hunter was honoured with the Paul Maurice Award for
dedication and sacrifice to the Spitfires organization.
He also served as a scout for the OHL’s Guelph Storm
for three years and was part of the team’s 2004 OHL
Championship squad that advanced to the Memorial Cup.
“We are thrilled to have Jim take over as head coach
of our Lancer Women’s Hockey program,” said Gord
Grace, director of Athletics. “He has a wealth of coaching
experience at all levels and is a proven
winner, as evidenced by his work with
the Tecumseh Chiefs. He has proven
that he can build a successful hockey
program and we are looking forward
to him leading our Lancer Women’s
Hockey team into the future.”
Also an experienced player, Hunter
spent three seasons in the Ontario
Hockey League with the Peterborough
Petes, Kingston Canadians and North
Bay Centennials.
He played one season with the
Lancer Men’s Hockey program while
finishing up his Bachelor of Economics
degree at the University of Windsor
before playing professionally in the IHL
for Toledo.
Coach Hunter says he is excited
about the Lancer opportunity:
“I am really looking forward to coming to the University
of Windsor and taking over the coaching duties for the
Women’s Hockey program,” said Hunter. “It will be an
exciting challenge to build a championship-calibre program
and to continue to build upon the great hockey tradition at
the University of Windsor.”
