As general counsel to SOCAN, Mr. Spurgeon's practice includes copyright law, communications law, corporate-commercial law and administrative law, appearing before the Copyright Board and the Federal Court of Canada and other public bodies including the CRTC and various Parliamentary committees. SOCAN is a party to the appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada of the "Tariff 22 " decision, a case that raises a number of copyright issues relating to the transmission of music over the Internet.

Mr. Spurgeon will be speaking about Canadian law regarding copyright and music downloads.
