Admission Requirements
The Faculty of Nursing prepares students to fulfil
their potential in a registered nursing career and
take their place as health care professionals on
interprofessional teams in Canada and globally.
Nursing is the science of applying knowledge,
the technical aspects of practice and the art of
establishing a caring relationship. A nurse’s role
may include clinical practitioner, administrator,
teacher or researcher.
Nurses practise in many settings from hospital to
home, in clinics or industry, to name just a few.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing prepares you for
entry positions in all areas of health care*.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Provides a broad educational background in all necessary areas of
nursing, science and the social sciences
•
Includes Year One clinical experience in hospitals, home care, schools
and other community health settings
•
Provides students with the opportunity to practise in placements
such as health promotion and community health as well as palliative,
primary, acute and/or long-termcare
•
Offers the benefits of independent learning laboratories, simulated
activities and individual conferences with faculty
•
Provides prerequisites for four-year BScN students to write the
Canadian Registered Nurse Exams to become registered nurses

*Graduates from all nursing programs in Canada are required to pass the Canadian
Registered Nurse and Jurisprudence Examinations. Beginning in 2015, the North
American NCLEX examination will be the registration examination for all nursing
graduates. Ontario graduates receive their registration from the College of Nurses of
Ontario once they demonstrate through the examination process, that they meet the
competencies required for safe nursing practice. A BScN graduate may also pursue
graduate studies or further education in a speciality of interest.
