Health care is currently one of the world’s fastest-growing and Canada’s second-largest, service industry employment sectors.
It consumesmore than 10 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) of most developed nations, supplying ample economic
and employment opportunities. Due to recent medical and technological advances, new careers in health care are opening at
an exponential rate, answering the increasing demand for public health professionals who can tackle complex issues such as
bioterrorism, obesity, West Nile virus, global warming, health care costs and family violence.

professions such as medicine, nursing, dentistry, optometry, occupational therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic and many other fields.
Our undergraduate programs provide you with the prerequisites for graduate programs offered both at UWindsor and elsewhere.
The range of UWindsor programs leading to health care careers is
extensive and includes courses in biochemistry, human kinetics,
arts and science, environmental science, engineering, forensic
science and medical physics, just to name a few.
Our
Arts and Science program
is designed for highly
motivated students who want a comprehensive, challenging
education in the arts, social and natural sciences. It allows you
to combine your own programs of interest to match your career
aspirations. The
Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
(page 10) offers programs in the social sciences, social work, all of
the fine arts and a robust selection of humanities, while the
Faculty
of Science
rovides laboratory experience, research
opportunities and undergraduate thesis possibilities leading to
careers in health care.
The
Faculty of Nursing
t UWindsor provides you with
the unique opportunity to gain a valuable, hands-on learning
experience combined with academic theory to ensure a well-
rounded education. You will learn real-world application techniques
through Year One clinical experience in hospitals, community
settings and state-of-the-art simulation labs using high-fidelity
mannequins. Our facility recently underwent a $4.2-million
expansion, making it an exciting time in the Faculty of Nursing.
The
Biology, Biochemistry and Chemistry
programs
at UWindsor provide undergraduates with a firm foundation for
students to fulfil their requirements for application to medical,
dental and pharmacy schools. Small class sizes together with a
large breadth of available courses and access to professors make a
UWindsor education both a rewarding and stimulating experience.
Through faculty counselling, you are allowed the flexibility to design
your own interdisciplinary programs or to specialize in areas such
as biotechnology, neuroscience, environmental biology and more.
Support for pre-med students is available in the Departments of
Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Faculty
of Science in addition to other student based support groups such
as the Science Society and the Pre-Med Society. Excellent pre-
professional training is available in these programs.
The
Kinesiology Movement Science
major
rovides
an exceptional educational experience in a variety of areas
including exercise physiology, biomechanics and ergonomics,
motor learning and lifespan development, sport psychology, and
health and wellness. Core and major level courses provide both a
solid theoretical background and significant practical laboratory
experiences. We offer world-class facilities for both teaching and
research. Our program is accredited by the Canadian Council of
University Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators. Our
graduates enjoy success in such professional careers as medicine,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, massage
therapy, athletic therapy and pharmacy. Kinesiology provides a
student-centered, learning-centered environment and outstanding
support in an exciting, multi-disciplinary, field of study.
The
Medical Physics
progra
at UWindsor is carefully
crafted to retain all of the physics and mathematics contained in
a traditional physics degree while, at the same time, introducing
new content in biology, biochemistry and senior-level courses
in specialized areas of medical physics. You will have the unique
opportunity to gain clinical and research experience in our
university labs and local hospitals. Medical Physics opens the
way to exciting and rewarding career opportunities involving the
application of physics to the treatment of diseases and other
biological studies. If you like physics and mathematics, but want
