University recognized for energy efficiency

Concert in the CAW Student Centre's Basement Pub really generates some electricity.

Two local bands, The Tree Streets and Inoke Errati, performed a free, all-ages show entitled Rockin’ off the Grid. What made the the show unusual as that - rather than drawing from the utility grid, they generated 1,000 amps to power their equipment from cyclists pedaling on stationary bikes, along with wind turbines and solar panels donated by Windsor Powerhouse.

This was the first Canadian concert to be completely off the grid, said music student Brenden Fraser. He and his classmates in the Green Corridor course pulled the event together to demonstrate the many applications of alternative energy.

There were three stationary bikes hooked up to generators in front of the stage and anyone was welcome to participate in the show.
