NURSING GRADUATE TO RECEIVE ALUMNI
ASSOCIATION’S HIGHEST HONOUR
Janet Davidson does not shy away from a challenge.
Davidson, BScN ’71, LLD ’09 has tackled such crucial
issues as the need for international aid and co-operation
abroad and improving access to quality care right here
in Canada.
This fall, the School of Nursing graduate will receive
the UWindsor Alumni Association’s highest honour, the
prestigious Award of Merit, at the Annual General Meeting
and Awards Presentations in November.
“I was totally surprised and humbled to learn that I
have been named as a recipient of the UWindsor Alumni
Award of Merit,” says Davidson. “My time at UWindsor
was truly transformational. Without that experience, I could
not have made the contribution that I have. Thanks for
everything you have done for me - you deserve the merit!”
Davidson has generously supported her alma mater,
including the endowment of a nursing scholarship.
She served the Canadian Red Cross as a volunteer and
board member, and as a senior governance capacity within the
International Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement in Geneva.
In 2007, she became president and CEO of Trillium
Health Centre in Mississauga, Ont. Previously, she served
as COO with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority,
president and CEO of Toronto East General Hospital, COO
of both the Alberta Mental Health Board and the University
of Alberta Hospital, and assistant deputy minister of
Health for Alberta.
In June 2009, Davidson received an Honorary Doctor
of Laws degree from the University of Windsor. Among
other honours, she is an Officer of the Order of Canada and
of the Order of the Red Cross. She has been the recipient
of the 125th Anniversary and Queen’s Jubilee Medals.
