ALUMNI SPORTS HALL OF FAME TO INDUCT FOUR NEW MEMBERS
The Alumni Sports Hall of Fame will receive the
following inductees on October 2, 2011 at the
26th annual ceremonies.
Jennifer (Graham) Schutz
BHK ’95, BEd ’97, MHK ’98
Athlete Category
Schutz competed on the track and
field team from 1992-96, which
won the national and provincial
titles in each of those years. She
herself won six national titles,
the most of any Lancer athlete ever, 15 provincial medals
and 61 gold, silver, and bronze medals at other meets.
Schutz was a five-time all-conference, all-star in track and
field. She was a member of the Cross-country team from
1991-95, including its 1995 national championship year.
Her outstanding performance earned her the title of CIAU
All-Canadian three times, and she was a conference all-star.
Andy Buckstein
LLB ’83
Athlete Category
Buckstein competed for Lancer
track and field from 1980-83.
He was the OUAA 600-metre
champion and team MVP for
three consecutive years. He won
the Demarco Award for high
academic achievement among top student athletes. He
broke 27 Lancer track records and earned four provincial
gold medals, one silver, and two bronze. In 1983, he won
the Hec Phillips Memorial Trophy as the most outstanding
performer at the provincial championships.
Jodi Beaugrand
BA ’93
Athlete Category
Perennial all-star Beaugrand
competed on the Lancer
Women’s Volleyball team from
1991-94. She returned to the
team in 1996-97 season. Named
team MVP for each season she
played, Beaugrand claimed the Banner Shield award as
top female athlete in 1997. She was a 4-time OWIAA
West Division All-Star.
Dr. Richard Peddie

Peddie, president and CEO
of Maple Leaf Sports and
Entertainment, is a proud
supporter of the University and
Lancer Athletics. He founded
“Full Court Press”, a fundraising initiative to support
Lancer men’s basketball. He donated, in partnership with
the Alumni Association, $100,000 for the installation of
artificial turf at Alumni Field. He and wife Colleen were
honorary co-chairs of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport
Women’s Basketball Championship held at the University
this past March. He also established the Richard A.
Peddie Bursary to support deserving student-athletes. In
recognition, the Department of Athletics established the
Richard Peddie Leadership Award, the University honoured
Peddie with an Honorary Doctor of Laws in 2001, and he
received the Alumni Award of Merit in 2009, the Alumni
Association’s highest honour.

Sport Achievement Award
Joe Bowen, “The voice of the
Toronto Maple Leafs,” has
broadcasted more than 2,100
Leaf games, punctuating each
with his trademark catchphrase,
“Holy Mackinaw!” Other
career highlights include the blow-by-blow broadcast of
Muhammad Ali’s last fight and the Trevor Berbick vs. Larry
Holmes World Title fight.
1975 Lancer Football Team
Team Achievement Award
The 1975 West Division and Ontario co-champion Lancer
football team went undefeated in provincial play, including
two victories over the defending national champions from
Western. The team defeated Laurier 65-8 to capture the
West Division title and a share of the Yates Cup, setting
an OUAA record with seven passing touchdowns. Their
dominant defence still holds the OUA record for fewest
points allowed in a season, allowing just 34 points in
seven games.
