IDEAS TO ACTION
Understanding and Preventing Problem Gambling in Seniors The Problem Gambling Research Group and the Council on Aging, Windsor and Essex County, have jointly undertaken a community based project to understand and prevent problem gambling in seniors. A presentation of the methodology and preliminary results is available. This presentation was given by Richard Govoni and Deana Johnson at the 17th Congress of the International Association of Gerontology.

Ideas to Action Project Team G. Ron Frisch Ph.D. (Principal Investigator) is the Director of the Problem Gambling Research Group and Professor of Psychology at the University of Windsor. Within the gambling field, he has a special interest in problem gambling in older adults and issues of prevention, identification and diagnosis of gambling. He has been a member of the Think Tanks on Youth Gambling Issues at Harvard and McGill Universities, serves as a reviewer for a number of publications and granting agencies, and is Chair of the Board of the Ontario Problem Gambling Centre in Guelph, Ontario.       Richard J. Govoni, Ph.D. (Co-Investigator) is the Associate Director of the Problem Gambling Research Group and Assistant Professor, Adjunct at the University of Windsor. Over the last five years he has developed and managed three major surveys that have tracked the effects of increased gambling availability on gambling behaviour in the Windsor community. He has an interest in community-based research and in research with seniors.       Deana Johnson MHK (Co-Investigator) is the Consulting Executive Director of the Council on Aging, Windsor and Essex County. She has many years of experience in gerontology, facilitation and strategic planning, and community development. She is the Past-President of the Ontario Gerontology Association.
