Candidates fromoutsidecontinentalNorthAmericamust applyand
submit all supportingdocuments to theRegistrar’sOfficebefore
July1 for registration in theFall term.
All othercandidatesmust applyandsubmit all supporting
documentsas follows:August 1 for theFall term;December1 for
theWinter term; andApril 1 for theSummer term (Intersession
andSummerSession).

Applicantswhosenative language isnotEnglishmust demonstrate

Thiscanbedemonstrated inoneof the followingways:
1) Aminimumscoreof6.5on the InternationalEnglishLanguage
TestingSystem (IELTS);or
2) Aminimumscoreof60on theCarletonUniversityCanadian
AcademicEnglishLanguageAssessment (CAEL);or
3) Successfulcompletionof theUniversityofWindsor’sEnglish
Language ImprovementProgram (ELIP)* (level III)withaminimum
finalgradeof75%;or
4) Aminimumscoreof85on theEnglishProficiencyTest
administeredby theEnglishLanguage Instituteof theUniversityof
Michigan (MELAB);or
5) Aminimumscoreof220withaT.W.E.4.5on thecomputer-based
test,83withanessayscoreof20on the Internet-based testof
EnglishasaForeignLanguage (T.O.E.F.L.);or
6) Receiveaminimumof fivesemester transfercreditsbasedonwork
completed atarecognizedEnglish-speakinguniversity (normally,
studentsmusthaveat leastone termof full-timestudy);or
7) Receiveaminimumofoneyearof transfercreditbasedonwork
completedatanon-universitypost-secondary institutionwithabove
averagestanding;or
8) Havecompletedallsecondaryorpost-secondaryeducation in
Englishspeakingcountriessuchas theUK,West Indiesandother
countriesasspecifiedby theundergraduateadmissionsoffice;or
9) Candemonstrate that theyhavecompleted threeyearsof full-
timesecondaryorpost-secondarystudy inaschoolwhere the
languageof instruction isEnglish (e.g., inaBritish,Canadian,
AmericanorAustraliancurriculumoran internationaldiploma
like the InternationalBaccalaureate)andcandemonstrateEnglish
proficiency. InsomecasesanEnglishproficiency testmaystillbe
required;or
10) Aminimumscoreof60 forundergraduateadmissions.For
graduateadmissions:a)aminimumscoreof65 forgraduate
programsrequiringa6.5 IELTSorb)aminimumscoreof68 for
graduateprogramsrequiring7.0 IELTS-PearsonTestofEnglish
Academic (PTE);or
11) Applicantswhodonotsatisfy theaboverequirementsandwish
exemptionmustprovide theAdmissionsOfficewitha letterdetailing
thereasons for theirappealand includea letterofrecommendation
from theirsecondaryschoolprincipalordesignate.Themanagerof
UndergraduateAdmissionsordirectorof InternationalAdmissions
assesses therequest forexemptionof thisrequirement.
