Balloting by Mail / Hey, is this Association DEMOCRATIC, or WHAT?
ELECTION WILL BE CONDUCTED BY MAIL
PRES. AND SEC-TREAS. TO 'RETIRE' BUT WILL REMAIN ON EXECUTIVE
Saying that it is time to "pass the torch', Norm Shklov and Bill Phillips, for five years Pres. and Sec-Treas. of the Association, told the Fall meeting that they are stepping aside. Both will continue as members of the Executive Committee. (See Constitutional Changes, p.2).
Shklov said the Association is now firmly established, stressing the excellent working relationship and communications with the University. But "our effectiiveness in the future will depend wholly on continuing that rapport", he said.
ELECTION TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE SPRING MEETING
The Association's elections, normally part of the Fall meeting, are this year to be by mail. This was approved by the Oct 27th meeting as the President emphasized the importance of enabling all members to have input, including those located too far away to attend the meetings.
Pres. Shklov suggested that we try the method, even as an experiment to see how well it works. "It will require work, and some postage expense, but it seems worth the effort".
