President Cunningham's Message
In this Newsletter you'll read about a number of
developments. The joint D7 Committee (Retired
Members Pension Committee) has just completed its first-
ever report on the adequacy of the retirement benefits for
former faculty and librarians. We view this as an
important step in the whole business of refining
accountability-to-retirees. As mandated by the Contract,
the Report goes directly to the University and to the
Faculty Association. After that process, we expect to
release it to the Retirees' Association. You will also read
about the proposals we've worked to have included
among the new contract proposals for 2001-2004(?)
Remember, these are proposals, but we intend to follow
through by making the weight of our desires and concerns
known to the WUFA negotiators. Finally, you'll also read
about the health-benefits proposals that we will present at
the March general meeting for your discussion and vote.
It offers reduced monthly premiums and the advantages
of a new 'couples' subscription-category.
We hope to see you at the spring meeting on
March 15. If you haven't yet paid your 2000-2001
membership fees, please take a minute to do so now.
Your voice adds weight to ours when we confer with the
Faculty Association and to the University.
Forty Faculty, Librarians and Staff retire in 2001. This
includes 26 faculty and 14 staff. The University of
Windsor and the Faculty Association will hold a Dinner
Dance in their honor on Friday, March 30, 2001 at 6.00
p.m.
