Vice President Neil Gold addresses Retirees Spring General Meeting

Professor Gold brought greetings from the University and the President, Dr. Ross Paul. Although he has occasion to meet several retirees on campus, he is particularly interested in hearing from them; but no clear mechanism exists for such dialogue. He briefly touched upon some of the problems, he faced with respect to office space for professors emeriti; and he expects to have more problems, as more people retire in the future.

He said, that the University is working through the restructuring process, making a turn and moving forward. There is a more positive view on campus today, than a year ago. He admitted ,that a lot has to be done in the new millennium. While the University has a wide range of offerings in six or seven areas of students' interests, it is faced with assigning resources, improving quality and maintaining programs. He referred to the document "Best of both worlds"paper which is a dream, but the aim is to balance conflicting goals and priorities. He invited comments and advice from retirees.

Another Pension Surplus!!!

The excess pension surplus amount is greater than the estimated $22,600,000 used in the negotiations last summer. Pursuant to Clause 1.(e) of the "Memorandum of Agreement: Disbursement of the Excess Pension Surplus" the Faculty Association Negotiation Team and the University of Windsor Team are expected to meet shortly regarding the disbursement of the additional surplus. Rumor has it the surplus is around $ 3,000,000.

The Newsletter

The Retirees' Newsletter is put out by the Faculty, Librarian Administrator Retirees' Association of the University of Windsor, five times per year: -- in February, April, June, October and December.

Its main purpose is to inform our retirees on matters of direct interest to them - such as their pensions, benefits, association activities, etc. and, equally, to provide a channel for retirees to keep in touch with each other and with outside groups, including the Faculty Association and the University.

The Newsletter welcomes from readers their comments, arguments, contributions and creative work.
