Future plans
The primary objective at present is to raise funds for constructing a permanent housing complex (concrete and brick buildings) replacing the temporary shed presently used to house and educate the children. Based on the cost of land, building materials and labour supplied by contractors in India, it will cost $150,000 to finish the construction. After the housing complex is completed, an educational trust for children will be established to make the school self-supporting from the yield of investments at local banks. Arrangements are being made with a local hospital and physicians in Tenali and in Canada to surgically correct bone deformities caused by polio, and with physiotherapists to help them regain their strength.
The vocational courses which were introduced to higher grade children in carpentry, electrical wiring, embroidery, tailoring and candle making will be offered full time for 6 months to a year after students graduate with a high school diploma. The extended full time training for six months will prepare students to qualify for a certificate which enables them to find employment with local businesses or to start their own business.
We plan to introduce adult literacy classes in the evening to parents and guardians of the children, so that they can understand the value of education to their children and to themselves. We also plan to form a cooperative credit society with the help of financial institutions to ensure loans to graduates of the school for self employment.
We intend to open a separate wing for senior citizens to provide shelter for them and allow them to interact with children.
The future expansion of activities and the survival of the Project depend on the availability of resources and contributions from supporters.
