Course Description
This course provides students with an introduction to aspects of professional artistic practice. Students will learn about the Canadian art market by examining the structures of public, artist-run and commercial galleries as well as alternative spaces. They will research civic, provincial and federal granting agencies and prepare a project description suitable for grant applications or application to a Master’s program.  Students will learn how to document their work, prepare an artist statement and a professional artist package complete with CV, documentation, artist statement and project proposal. Students will present their documented work and artist statement to the class.
 
Assignments are designed to provide an overview and understanding of the multiple possibilities in the cultural sector and to prepare students for the next stage in their art careers.
