This WebQuest introduces the concepts associated with the interaction of light and matter. Students will explore how these interactions change in different regions of the EM spectrum as well as other factors they depend on. Finally the use of these ideas in emerging biosensors is introduced to show the student exciting applications of physics in the medical field.

Teacher Introduction

This WebQuest is designed to teach students about the interaction of light and matter, as well as a few of its applications. It consists of two parts, an interactive, online lesson, followed by an assignment. The online component contains both applets for the students to play with and explore, as well as text-based websites suited for their grade level. The assignment uses both visual (graphical) and communication/written based questions that will require students to apply what they have learned.
