You may be familiar with the term "force field," albeit through science fiction films, but what does it really mean? A force field is a representation of the amount of force a body would experience due to a particular potential at any point in space. A field may be a scalar field, where its value has only magnitude like a pressure field or a temperature field. A force field, however, is a vector field: the force on a body within it has both magnitude and direction. Such fields include gravitational, electrical, and magnetic fields.
