-Mayfontaine-

The 1999 CIAU Mens 4x200m silver medal winner and second team All Canadian Windsor Lancers. Team members from left to right: Jeff Schleifer, Steve Hoggett, Jessie Dupuis & Ken Tumak.

On early Saturday January 8, former Lancer captain Jeffrey Schleifer was critically injured in a motor vehicle accident. Jeff began his running career with the Lancers in the fall of 1995. Immediately he made himself the life of the team, with his upbeat personality and his rah rah, attitude. Nowhere could you be within distance of Jeff without hearing his laugh or being blinded by his camera.

Last year Jeff was a co-captain of our mens team and a member of the 4x200m team that captured the silver medal at the CIAU Championships in Montreal. More importantly he was the emotional leader of that team, keeping it upbeat and relaxed through its ups and its downs.  Although, Jeff is not running this season, it did not stop him from encouraging fellow team members towards achieving their best.

It is now our turn to encourage Jeff. With all of our strength and best wishes, our prayers are with you, Jeff, and the rest of the Schleifer family. We will pray for a speedy and full recovery, so that one day you will be blinding us once again with that ever present smile of yours.

Update on Jeff's condition:

Jeff has now been taken out of the ICU unit and now has a semi private room. He has also been taken off the respirator. He is not out of the woods yet. But it is still a good sign nonetheless.

What's Next?

The Eastern Michigan University Open meet is up next for the Lancers, on Saturday Feb. 19th in Ypsilanti, Michigan.

Available Facilities & Services

The Track & Field Team's successes are largely based on all things "Dennis" -- 10 time national champ Coach Dennis Fairall, and the excellent St. Denis Centre facility. A 6-lane 200m mondo surfaced track encircles the fieldhouse, with both mondo and woodcourt surfaces used by many of the Lancers other varsity teams. Two weight rooms (one varsity, one public) and our 25 metre pool are also utilised on a regular basis to improve the team's overall performance. The Lancers are proud to hold this year's OUA Track & Field Championships at the St. Denis Centre.

See the U of W Athletics Hompage for all other athletic endeavours.

The University of Windsor Homepage also has extensive information on courses, the city itself, the Alumni Association, faculties, campus news etc.

Want to contact someone in particular on our team? Use the University "finger" system. (No our twins are not the stars of the hit show Sister, Sister on the WB network!!).
