Head Coach - Dennis Fairall
An eleven-time CIAU and OUA Coach of
the Year award winner in track and field and cross-country, Coach Fairall is in his
fourteenth season with the Lancers. This year he was also named CIAU men's
cross-country coach of the year. He has served as a coaching instructor with the
International Olympic Development Committee, and held several coaching clinics in South
and Central America.
Head coach of Canada's team at the 1989 World University
Games, he was combined events coach for the Canadian contingent at the 1995 University
Games. In addition, he has coached Canada's Maccabi Games team on three occasions,
and worked as president of the CIAU Coaching Association and several local track clubs.
As an athlete, Dennis was a member of the University of Western
Ontario's 1975 Canadian record-setting 4x200 metre team.
Assistant Coach (Hurdles) - Don Garrod
Now in his tenth season with the Lancers, Don was the 1996-97 recipient
of the Gino Fracas Coaching Award for his desire and dedication to Windsor's hurdlers, who
finished first and second at the 1997 CIAU's. A native of Chatham and graduate of
Chatham-Kent high school, Don is a former OFSAA gold medallist in the 4x400 metre relay.
Assistant Coach (Jumps/strength) - Brett Lumley
A three-year member of the Lancer
track team, Brett was a member of two OUA and CIAU championship teams, and was a Lancer
team captain in 1992. He was head coach and president of the St. Thomas Legion Track Club
for nine years and is currently completing his Masters degree in Biomechanics from
Lakehead University.
Assistant Coach (Relays/Sprints) - O'Brian Gibbsons
"OB" is now in his fourth
season as a Lancer coach following an outstanding CIAU career. The holder of seven Lancer
records and the CIAU 60m record (6.63), he competed in the 200m at the Atlanta Olympics,
took bronze in 10.10 in the 100m at the 1998 Canadian Nationals and won silver in the
4x100m at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia.
Assistant Coach (Shot Put) - Joanne Rothery
Now in her third year as a Lancer
coach, Joanne's 1981 provincial high school shot put record of 12.25 metres remains the
standard for Ontario's midget girls. After winning a conference shot put title at Oklahoma
State, she returned to Canada and was a two-time All-Canadian at the University of
Saskatchewan.
Assistant Coach (Pole Vault) - Greg McCullough
An accredited Level IV national Field
Official, Greg begins his eleventh year with the Lancers. During his tenure, Windsor's
vaulting records have risen by more than a metre. A physical education teacher at
Windsor's Herman Secondary School, Greg made his international officiating debut at the
1993 World Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Assitant Coach (High Jump) - Dave McGuffin
A twenty-year veteran of coaching,
this is Dave's eighth season at Windsor. He has won both Junior and Senior Eastern
Canadian Championships, and was a three-time conference champion jumper while in
university. A teacher at Windsor's Riverside Secondary School, Dave has coached several
CIAU champions and OFSAA medallists.
Assistant Coach (Combined Events) - Dave Steen
A longtime Canadian decathlon
champion, Dave won the Olympic bronze medal for decathlon at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The
Burnaby, BC native, a graduate of Cal-Berkeley, begins his second season as a Lancer
coach. He will be responsible for program development with the Lancers' combined event
athletes.
