CIMOLINO NAMED TO ORDER OF CANADA
UWINDSOR AMONG ONTARIO UNIVERSITIES COMMITTED TO GOING GREENER
ENGINEERING PROFESSOR RECEIVES ORDER OF ONTARIO
Antoni CimolinoBFA ’84,DHum ’04, artisticdirector
of the StratfordFestival,was one of 69new
appointments to theOrder of Canadaannounced
for 2016.
Cimolinofirst joined the StratfordFestival as an actor,
andmoved into the director’s chair in the 1990s.
Nominations for the award are basedon an individual’s
achievements, dedication to their community, and service
to the nation. Cimolino and the other appointmentswill be
honoured at a ceremony inOttawa at a later date.
TheUniversityof WindsorCyclingAssociation
(UWCA) isagoodexampleof Ontariouniversities’
growinggreencommitment, according to the2014
Council of OntarioUniversities’ (COU) annual

report.
TheUWCA student clubwas founded inSeptember
2013 andhas grown tremendously since. The student club
hosted aBikeWeek inboth the spring and fall of 2014,
which included sessions onnutrition for cyclists, locking
clinics, safe bikingpractices, free bike tune-ups, group rides
and raffles.
Thegroupwasalso instrumental inobtaining the
university’sfirstFixit station,whichprovidesahangar and
tools formembersof thecyclingcommunity toperform
minor repairson theirbikes. Inaddition, thegrouphas
partneredwithShare theRoad for theUCycleprogram,
andhostedgroup rides toencouragecyclingamongmembers
of theUWindsor campus.
Also in2015, UWindsorwas alsoone of onlyfive
Canadianuniversities ranked among the greenest inNorth
America by the
PrincetonReview’sGuide to 353Green
Colleges
.
UWindsorprofessorHodaElMaraghy isoneof
thenewestmembersof theOrderof Ontario, the
province’shighest official honour.
Thisyearmarks the30thanniversaryof theaward,which
recognizes individualswhohavedemonstratedexcellenceand
achievement inanyfieldbenefiting thepeopleof Ontarioor
anywhere in theworld.
Dr. ElMaraghywas thefirst femaledeanof engineering
inCanadawhen theUWindsor appointedher in1994,
andwas thefirstCanadianwoman toearnadoctorate
inmechanical engineering. She isCanadaResearchChair
inManufacturingSystems.
DuringherUWindsor career, ElMaraghy founded and
remains director of the IntelligentManufacturingSystems
Centre. Her researchonflexiblemanufacturinghas helped
manufacturers around theworld adapt and respond to
market changes.
ElMaraghy isa fellowof theCanadianSocietyof
Mechanical Engineers, theSocietyof Manufacturing
Engineers, and the InternationalAcademy forProduction
Engineering, aswell asamemberof theAmericanSociety
of Mechanical Engineers.
She receivedher latest honourduringan investiture
ceremonyatQueen’sParkonJanuary20.
