TheStephenandVicki AdamsWelcomeCentre
inOctober—auniquebuildingon thenortheast
corner of WyandotteandPatricia thatwill serve
as agateway to themain campus.
TheStephenandVickiAdamsWelcomeCentrehouses
theofficesof StudentRecruitment,AlumniAffairsandDonor
Communications,UniversityCampaign, PublicAffairsand
Communications, andAlumni andDonorRecords.The team
of AmicoDesignBuildandHariri PontariniArchitects/
Architecttura Inc.workedon theproject.
Accessible frommultiple campus routes, the curvature
of the semi-transparent, 18,000-square-foot building invites
a feelingof openness, givingvisitors 360-degreeviews
of the surrounding campus. Inaddition toadministrative
offices, it offers a spacious lobby for campus events, amulti-
purpose room for larger functions, andaHeritageWall that
depicts theuniversity’s richhistory.

Wildeman said that placing thenames of Stephenand
Vicki Adams on this important
building recognizes their
exceptional gift of $2million
to theuniversity. It includes
support for theWelcome
Centre, a scholarship fund,
andanart collection that is
ondisplay throughout the
new centre.
“Through their scholarship
fund, StephenandVicki are
helping futuregenerations of
students. Their generosityhas
alsohelped theUniversityof
Windsor createanewand
very specialWelcomeCentre–
TheStephenandVicki Adams
WelcomeCentre,”
saidWildeman.
“Consistentwith their belief that educationand the
arts are intertwined, their givingbackhas included theart
collectionand sculpture that bringauniqueandpersonal
character to the space.”
StephenandVicki Adams grewup inWindsor andhave
a longassociationwith theuniversity. Stephengraduated
withaBAHonours in1969andMA inPolitical Science in
1970.More than30membersof StephenandVicki’s families
haveattendedAssumptionUniversityor theUniversityof
Windsor.
“TheUniversityof Windsor hasmeant somuch tous,”
saidStephen. “Wearealsoproud tobeable to recognize
thosewhomadeour success at this institutionpossible:my
father, ThomasAdams;myuncle, JackAdams; andProf.
WalterWhite.”
At thegrandopening,Dr.Wildemanalsoannounced the
releaseof
SteveandVickiAdams,Our Story
, abookdetailing
theAdams’ connection toboth theuniversityand city.
Proceeds from its salewill bedonated to theUnitedWay/
CentraideWindsor-EssexCounty.
