scientists, or that a large man can
perspire as much as 19 litres of
water a day?
David Phillips—Canada’s
weather guru—does.The spokesman
for the Environment Canada
Meteorological Service is Canada’s best-known weatherman and
the author of
The Canadian Weather Trivia Calendar.
It is Canada’s
most popular calendar.
Phillips has also published several best-selling books including
The Climates of Canada, Blame It On The Weather
and
The Day
Niagara Falls Ran Dry.
Although he could have long since retired, Phillips considers
his job a labour of love. “I am lucky. I get paid to talk about
weather and, for a Canadian, it’s like asking us to breathe.”
The UWindsor alumnus is a recipient of the Patterson Medal
for Distinguished Service to Meteorology in Canada, two Public
Service Merit Awards, honorary doctorates from the University of
Waterloo, Nipissing University and the Order of Canada. He was
awarded the Camsell Medal by the Royal Canadian Geographical
Society in 1993.
Phillips received the University of Windsor Alumni Award of
Merit in 2012.

ichard Peddie’s stellar career
was defined by dedication,
clear leadership vision and
unwavering commitment.
Peddie has served as president
and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports &
Entertainment; president and COO
of Netstar Communications where
he launched TSN.ca; president and
CEO of Skydome and Pillsbury
Canada; and president of Hostess.
He was brand manager for Colgate
Palmolive and a consultant with Palestra group, which brought
the NBA to Canada.
The business graduate shepherded the growth of such iconic
brands as Colgate, Kool Aid, Hostess, Pillsbury, Green Giant,
TSN, Raptors and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Peddie has set a high standard as a benefactor to his alma
mater. Upon his retirement from MLSE, his friends raised
$750,000 for the Richard Peddie Leadership initiative at the
Odette School of Business where he served as the School’s first
Leader-in-Residence. Most recently, he donated $300,000 toward
the Odette south wing expansion.
Peddie is the author of
Dream Job: My Wild Ride on the
Corporate Side with the Leafs, Raptors and TFC
, which covers
his 41-year corporate leadership journey. He is also a 2:46
marathon runner.
Among Peddie’s many awards are the Donald B McCaskill
Award for Marketing Excellence in Canada; Pillsbury Sales
Hall of Fame;
Performance Magazine’s
North American
Facility Manager of the Year; and the Toronto Raptor’s John B.
McLendon Award. He has received the University’s prestigious
Clark Award, was named to its Sports Hall of Fame, and is a
2009 Recipient of the Alumni Award of Merit.
