he University of Windsor has contracted
construction company Buttcon Ltd.
to build its Social Work and Professional
Education Centre on the downtown site of
the historic former
Windsor Star
building.
The location will become the new home
of the University’s School of Social Work
and its Centre for Executive and Professional
Education.The new Social Work and
Professional Education Centre will retain the
landmark historic facades that defined the
original
Windsor Star
building.The total cost
of the project, including construction, will be
$32 million.
With completion expected in Spring
2015, the building will be one of three
signature properties to be transformed as
part of the University’s plans for a downtown
campus expansion as developed by CS&P
Architects. Other projects include the former
Major F.A. Tilston Armoury building and the
art deco-style former Greyhound Bus depot.
Buttcon was responsible for the
construction of UWindsor’s Toldo Health
Education Centre in 2003.

he Odette School of Business welcomed more than 150 students, alumni, professors
and faculty, representatives of the University and members of the Odette family to
the official unveiling of its new south wing in September during the 50th Anniversary
celebration weekend.
The iconic Edmond and Louis Odette building, constructed in 1991, originally
consisted of 13 classrooms, meeting and team rooms, computer labs, student lounges and
study areas.The renovation, made possible by a $3-million gift from the Odette family,
has added a reception lounge, two classrooms, as well as student and client workspace in
the space once occupied by the University Bookstore.
The addition is also home to the Entrepreneurship Practice and Innovation Centre
(EPICentre), which will be a catalyst for spurring entrepreneurship in the Windsor-Essex
region by partnering with key university, regional and cross-border groups.
