French professor in 1966. “We used to meet
in the coffee shop or even go drinking beer
with them.”
Fr. Stan Fraser BA ’63 said he fondly
recalls crossing the stage at his graduation
50 years ago on the lawn beside Dillon
Hall where his granddaughter now has
classes. “To be back here means I have my
health, and it’s also to say hey, I did it, I was
successful, and now, in retirement, I get to
relive a bit of it,” said Fraser.
The nostalgic convocation ceremony
was just one highlight on the 50th
celebratory calendar.
The University of Windsor’s 50th
anniversary weekend, held Sept. 19-22,
featured reunions of old friends, a fan-filled
stand for a triumphant Lancer football
game; a concert by one of the most popular
bands of the modern era, as well as shared
photos, yearbooks and fond memories
by alumni who returned to Windsor for
the occasion.
Celebrations kicked off on the Thursday
evening for an appreciative audience of
UWindsor friends and alumni with a
signature concert by Daryl Hall & John
Oates at Caesars Windsor. UWindsor
concertgoers enjoyed opportunities to buy
advance tickets to the show.
Celebrations continued on Friday with a
sponsor appreciation luncheon in the Augustus
Ballroom of Caesars Windsor. UWindsor
supporters and friends were honoured for their
efforts to support 50th Anniversary milestones
and were treated to a premier viewing of the
mini-documentary, “Our First 50 Years”, by
Suede Productions

The Lancer football team beat the
University of Toronto Varsity Blues 26-
11 on Saturday, cheered by an alumni
and student crowd that took the party
downtown to continue the celebration in
the Augustus Ballroom at Caesars Windsor.
50th celebrations continued on
November 20 with the Campus Fall
Festival over the noon hour in the Dillon
quad. Several thousand members of the
campus community shared a free lunch
of vegetarian chili, roasted chestnuts,
apple fritters, steaming hot chocolate and
coffee. Everyone left with a souvenir 50th
anniversary bag and a collector edition of
VIEW magazine
