Near-record cold temperatures couldn’t stop the
Universityof Windsor frombreaking groundon its
WelcomeCentre
, nowunder construction at the corner
of Wyandotte andPatricia streets.
Despite a dustingof snow, theAmico construction
crew traced the building’s distinctive serpentine outline on
the ground anddignitaries and guests gathered for a quick
ceremony tomark the occasion.
The 18,000-square-foot, $8.4-millionbuilding is slated
toopen in summer 2015, andwill house the offices of
Student Admissions andRecruitment, Alumni Affairs and
Donor Communications, theUniversityCampaign, Public
Affairs andCommunications, andAlumni andDonor
Records.
Staff representing eachof these areas took up
locations inside the building’s footprint for a unique
overhead video shot byfilmprofessorMinBae from an
aerial drone hovering above the site.

TheUWindsor Boardof Governors approveda
$5-millionproject to close Sunset andFanchette
streets
at itsmeetingTuesday, June 24.
The implementationof stage one of theCampus
Master Plan includes:
• Creationof a cul-de-sac onSunset Avenue at the north
endof ChryslerHall, accommodating areas for both
turnaround anddrop-off;
• Closure of Fanchette Street to vehicular trafficwest of
CaliforniaAvenue;
• Removal of asphalt surfaces fromparking lotsK,W and
L and their replacementwith clean gravel—landscaping
for these areas is envisioned in the next stage of work;
• Removing sidewalks alongSunset Avenue southof
Fanchette and replacing themwith green space and
seating areas.
TheUniversityhopes to complete the project by the
endof 2014.
