THE OCTOBER MEETING: WE NOW HAVE NEW OFFICERS;
AN EXPANDED EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE; EVEN A NEW NAME
ELECTION RESULTS
KUMAR CHATTERJEE IS PRESIDENT; DATTA PILLAY IS SECRETARY
The Annual General Meeting in October elected Kumar Chatterjee President for the coming year. Datta Pillay was elected Secretary, and Bill Phillips continues as Treasurer and Membership Convenor.
The meeting also approved expanding the Executive Committee by increasing from two to four the elected members; and adding committee chairpersons ex officio.
Already on the Executive ex officio (as provided in the constitution) are the founding President, Norm Shklov; the immediate past President, Edwin Habib; and the Editor of The Newsletter(currently Bill Phillips).
Thus the Executive Committee for the coming year is made up of eleven members, as follows:
Kumar Chatterjee, President
Datta Pillay, Secretary
Bill Phillips, Treasurer
Bob Chandler, Elected Member
Joseph Habowsky, Elected Member
Gerard Monforton, Elected Member
Terrance Parkinson, Elected Member
Norm Shklov, ex officio
Edwin Habib, ex officio
John LaGaipa, ex officio (Committee Chair)
Cormac Smith, ex officio (Committee Chair)

CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES
APPROVAL FOR A NAME CHANGE, TO INCLUDE ADMINISTRATORS
The meeting approved an Executive proposal that the name of the Association be altered to reflect that the membership now includes all retirees who are covered by the same pension plan as the Faculty and Librarians. Thus a number of former administrator personnel are now eligible to become members of the Association, and have done so.
One question which the October meeting did not take up was the precise wording of the new name, having in mind that we are not the only retirees' association on the campus A weighty issue indeed, but one which may simply have to wait a little longer -- till the next meeting maybe.
EXPANDED EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE COULD INCLUDE TWELVE-PLUS MEMBERS
The Constitution, as amended, now provides for an Executive Committee of some twelve members, including the three elected officers, four elected members at large, and five persons on the Committee ex officia, two of the latter being chairpersons of Committees of the Association.
This should ensure broad-based representation and input into the Committee.
