Notes – critique discussion
(critique of the critique)

1. readings and what they reveal regarding critique:
- can we list observations/arguments regarding critique by author.
- Perhaps identify what each sees as good and bad in the process.
- What each sees as productive and/or confusing
- Maybe just our observations of their observations
and then … discuss these lists within the context of each author’s “thesis” or primary argument
how else can we break down or pull apart the writings so that we can identify those bits important to our discussion of critique and also those things that may give some hints of potential “other” forms of a process for discussion relevant to your studio practice.
2. our ideas regarding the critique process:
    - personal experiences, good/bad
    - what do we learn (or not) through the process
    - does the process itself influence the nature of what we call art
    - does the/a discussion process denigrate the work
    - or does it help you resolve it

3. towards a new process:
    - make a list of what discussion (in our context) can do and can’t do
    - what elements could we change
    - is it the form of the discussion or the nature of it
    - what are possible alternatives:
        - of form
        - of structure
        - of focus
        - of intent

what if we try to talk :
behaviour not product.
engagement not outcome.
development not judgement
