When we think of steam engines, the first thing that comes to mind is early locomotives. These were in fact steam powered by boiling water in a boiler using coal. Steam engines predate locomotives and the earliest forms of them were in fact stationary! This section will dive into the history of the steam engine and illustrate some of it's earliest applications.
