Assignments

Test 1 (all essay) September 30 20%
Test 2 (all essay) October 28 20%
Test 3 (all essay) November 18 20%
Final Exam (all essay) December 14 30%
Participation Entire course 10%

The three tests and the final exam are based on study questions that will be made available to students in advance of the tests and exam. The final exam is cumulative, with a focus on material not covered in the first two tests.  Participation marks will be awarded for attending class, asking questions, answering questions, participating in class discussions, and not being disruptive.  Disruptive students will receive no participation marks.  Please Note: Students not writing a test or exam (and who fail to provide and acceptable excuse) forefeit all participation marks.

Students must notify the instructor as soon as possible if they miss a test. If there is a documentable reason why the test is missed (doctor’s note for illness on the day of the test, subpoena to appear in court on the day of the test, …) arangements can be made for a make-up test. I have noticed a clear trend in the writing of make-up tests: the longer students wait to write the make-up, the lower their marks tend to be. Please take that into consideration if you are in a situation where you may request a make-up. If you are unsure whether you qualify for a make-up, please err on the side of caution and ask the instructor.
