FRIENDS OF TENALI
Several years ago, my colleague, Tad Venkateswarlu, established a School in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh, South India. The purpose of this School is to provide orphaned and handicapped children with a safe haven, where they can be protected from the ravages of poverty, neglect and disease, and have an opportunity to get a good education, as well as to learn useful skills, so that they may become productive members of the society in which they live.
I have assisted Tad, through the Friends of Tenali Committee, in raising money for the School, by organizing an annual dinner in the early spring, as well as editing a periodic newsletter.
The Web page of the School can be reached through this link.
In August 1998, Tad paid his annual visit to the School, in order to attend the Anniversary celebrations, to review the progress of the School, and to consult with teachers and local officials. A number of photographs taken during his trip are shown below.
Supporters such as ourselves may not be able to see it in the future,
because of our limited life span, but the permanent impact of our
actions will remain forever in our spirits, and be cherished by the
children, and the children to follow. We will have instilled in
them
the hope and the desire to live, to work, to serve their society and
their fellow human beings, and, above all, to stand on their own feet
with dignity and freedom.
