            Poetry by Mary Ann Mulhern

      "Breasts"

      "Bride"

      "Chase"

      "First Light"

the sky is pregnant with morning
      red placenta lines the horizon
as if light born from blood
struggles through deep channels of night
into the fragile freedom of a river
      flowing between long lonely borders
      of the first day
      and the last
