Precision Physics of
Simple Atomic Systems
University of Windsor, July
21-26, 2008
Endorsed by
IUPAP
Organized by G.W.F. Drake,
University of Windsor, Canada,
and Savely G. Karshenboim, Max-Planck-Institut für
Quantenoptik, Germany, and D.I.
Mendeleev Institute for Metrology, Russia.
The conference is
one of a series of meetings, following PSAS 2000 (Florence
- Castiglione della Pescaia), PSAS 2002 (St. Petersburg -
Pushkin), PSAS
2004 (Rio de Janeiro - Mangaratiba) and PSAS
2006 (Venice - San Servolo).
The conference is devoted to
precision studies of atoms and simple molecules in order to develop new
tools and techniques to perform measurements beyond standard atomic
physics, and perhaps see new physics. Potential applications include
issues from particle and nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics,
astrophysics, metrology, etc.
Conference topics include:
- Precision spectroscopy of hydrogen, its
isotopes and other light atoms
- Study of pure leptonic systems, muonic and
exotic atoms
- Study of few-electron ions with medium and
high Z
- Precision frequency measurements and
determination of fundamental constants
- Search for variation of fundamental constants
and violation of fundamental symmetries
- Study of fundamental interactions in atomic
physics
- Structure of light nuclei and other hadronic
effects
- Quantum electrodynamics and advanced quantum
mechanics
The conference will take place
at the University of Windsor, located in Windsor, Ontario,
Canada. There are comfortable and inexpensive accommodations
available in student residences on campus $45.50 CDN (Canadian dollars) (plus taxes) per person per night, or you can
book at major hotels (Hilton and Travelodge) near by (approximately 4 km
by bus).
Windsor is a medium city (population 220,000) located in a rich agricultural area
and surrounded by the Great Lakes. From abroad, it can be reached through
Toronto, Ontario, or through the Detroit International
airport.
