Membership
Joining a fraternity is one of the most important decisions you
will make during your college years. By joining Pi Lambda Phi (Pi
Lam), you have become part of an international organization with a
proud history and a rich tradition. Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity was
founded over one hundred years ago as the first non-sectarian
fraternity. Our message that "all men are created free and equal"
has now been passed on to more than 40, 000 men. Current chapters
and colonies continue to uphold the values established by our
Founding Fathers.
As an undergraduate, a Pi Lam earns a position of leadership and
respect among his peers through his conduct and the strength of his
chapter. As an alumnus, a Pi Lam builds upon his experiences in the
fraternity to attain a more productive and rewarding family, social
and professional life. Pi Lambda Phi is a lifelong experience of
education and practical experiences which will remain with you - not
four years, but a lifetime.
The first step in becoming a good Pi Lam is to be a good student and
a good citizen within the academic community. We are committed to
the premise that membership in Pi Lambda Phi will be a positive part
of your total educational experience.
You are aspiring to wear the badge of Pi Lambda Phi; therefore,
conduct yourself in a gentlemanly manner. Realize that as a new
member and a brother, you are a representative of your chapter and
your fraternity. Proper conduct is a part of the foundation needed
to succeed in the fraternity. In its absence, the benefits of
fraternity are only partially realized.
We realize that living up to all the high ideals and principles of
Pi Lambda Phi may be difficult. But it is something for which you
should strive.
By joining a fraternity you will enhance your collegiate experience.
You will benefit from Pi Lambda Phi's structure, activities and the
men with whom you will be associating. Therefore, set your standards
high and strive to get the most out of your fraternity experience.
Henry David Thoreau once said, "If you have built your castles in
the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be.
Now put the foundation under them."
We remind you that as a fraternity man you must have the courage to
stand up for your beliefs and those of the fraters around you.
Search your soul for what you know is true, search your inner-self
for what you know to be noble. Have the courage to follow your
convictions and make Pi Lambda Phi proud!
