Getting Involved With The Fraternity

Evaluate you abilities.
Only you can decide if being in our fraternity is right for you. Membership in Pi Lam is fun and rewarding, but you should evaluate your abilities and consider the fact that it will require an investment of time, finance, dedication and perseverance.

Get involved in the recruitment process.
The recruitment period is a time for you to evaluate fraternities and for them to do the same to you. This Greek tradition (also known as "rush") is really just a way for you to meet people and get a taste of fraternity and greek life. During this period, you'll meet new people, attend fun events, and try to make a connection with men of similar ideals.

What about rush?
During Rush, the active brothers of Pi Lambda Phi will also be evaluating your character to see if you meet the criteria of the brotherhood. If so, we'll extend you an invitation to join our fraternity, also known as a bid.  In particular, we'll be looking for:

1. Attendance
    - Do you come to our rush functions and show an interest in our fraternity?

2. Character
    - Do you display attributes that will contribute to our vision and goals?

3. Adaptability
    - How well are you adapting to the process of becoming a member?

4. Responsibility
    - Can you fulfill the duties and live up to the responsibilities of brotherhood?

5. Leadership
    - Will you be a positive representative on campus, or to newer members?

6. Persistence
    - How committed are you to becoming a member?

Attain a bid.
The keys to attaining a bid are attendance at functions, personality, adaptability, responsibility, leadership and persistence. If we see things that we like in you, we'll very likely extend you a bid (i.e. an invitation to join).

Accept your bid, and you will be inducted into a new member class. During the next six to eight weeks, you'll learn more about Pi Lam and how to be a brother. If you meet our standards, you will be initiated, giving you the right to learn our secrets and wear the badge of Pi Lambda Phi.
