Madhu R

Madhu graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Commerce and a speciality in Marketing. If she wasn't on the 3rd floor leading Marketing Association meetings, or tutoring business students, she was probably on campus organizing a charity fundraiser. She is currently an Account Coordinator for Bell Media's The Sports Network. Although she works 9-5 in broadcasting, she's also a free lance writer and event coordinator. "My time at Odette shaped me into a leader and encouraged me to make a difference in the world. There were endless opportunities to grow; through my co-op placements, participation in clubs and extra curricular activities and especially through my travels to South Africa to launch a charity as part of the Golden Futures team. Odette taught me how to seamlessly transition from the classroom to the boardroom and apply those skills as a working professional.

During my time at the Odette School of Business, I had some truly unique experiences. As a part of the BComm with co-op program, I can honestly say I experienced the best of both worlds: the theoretical (in-class) and the practical (out-of-class). At the school, I concentrated in Marketing where I learned from professors with very diverse and sometimes unique experiences. One of the many highlights for me was our final project in our Advertising Management class where we were part of the team that ran the Windsor International Film Festival, sixth largest film festival in Canada (for now). Outside of class, I spent a lot of time with the Odette Commerce Society, the governing student body at the school. I started from the bottom and eventually became President during my final year. Outside of the school, as a part of the University of Windsor’s co-operative education program, I was able to secure an eight-month placement at 3M Canada where I worked in the company’s Personal Safety Division. I guess they say hard work paid off, because I started work back at 3M three weeks after I graduated in September of last year.

I chose the Odette School of Business because I wanted a school in which I could have smaller classes so teachers could be more hands on and really get to know their students. Within the small setting I was able to get to know all the students and teachers and be exposed to opportunities I would have never had at another school. I ended up with a wonderful education, an exchange experience to the Netherlands, and was able to be a part of the coop program. Alongside all my experience, I was able to get involved in school activities and this combined with my experiences and education I was able to get my dream job at Kimberly Clark as a sales representative. My experiences set me apart from my fellow graduates at other Universities and I have no regrets!

While at Odette, I specialized in entrepreneurship & strategy and participated actively in the Enactus program. Being part of the business program allowed me to gain a solid educational foundation in the classroom while being actively engaged in extra-curriculars thanks to the diverse club offering on campus. I do not think I would have obtained so much entrepreneurial experience anywhere else while completing an undergraduate degree. I made key faculty connections and took advantage of every opportunity to get involved in the community. My experience at Odette and Enactus even allowed me to be named one of Canada’s 100 Most Powerful Women and secure a spot in Canada’s Next 36 Entrepreneurial Institute which launched my career as a tech entrepreneur. Odette is filled with invaluable mentors and friendships that will influence and shape your life long after you leave.
