Neil Gold is New Vice President, Academic

Professor Neil Gold has been appointed Vice-President, Academic of the University of Windsor. "Professor Gold brings a tremendous range of expertise and experience, and a thorough knowledge of the workings of the University to his new post," said Dr. Paul. "He will be a vital part of a committed, effective and open leadership team as we work together for a revitalised University of Windsor for the year 2000 and beyond."

Professor Gold is a former Dean of Law at the University of Windsor and has been Interim Dean of Student Affairs and Continuing Education during the last year. As a member of the Faculty of Law, he has been active in promoting and teaching Alternate Dispute Resolution, and has written about the future of the law profession. Also in the past year, he has been chair of the university's Recruitment and Retention Committee.

His nomination by the Search Committee for Vice-President, Academic followed a nationwide search. The Vice-President, Academic is primarily responsible scholarship at the university, including the planning and administration of all bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs, as well as the direction and support of research initiatives.

He has built a distinguished reputation across Canada, and internationally. During his career, he has served with three law faculties, on two continents and been appointed Dean of two of the faculties. He is an expert in legal education, in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and is a pioneer in Canada's legal aid system. He continues to advise organizations on legal reform across Canada and around the world.

Dean Gold holds a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) from York University, a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English and French from Glendon College of York University.

He was first appointed to the Faculty of Law at the University of Windsor in 1973. In 1974, he was the founding director of the Windsor's first community-based legal aid clinic,

In 1975, he left to join the law faculty of the University of Victoria in British Columbia. During his ten years in B.C., Dean Gold set up the first legal aid clinic in Victoria and later, developed a professional training program for lawyers that became the standard across the Commonwealth and beyond.

He returned to the University of Windsor in 1985 and was appointed Dean of Law, a position he held until 1990. That year he was asked to set up an entirely new law program at what is now known as the City University of Hong Kong. In 1993, he returned home to the University of Windsor and its law school. He was appointed Assistant to the Vice-president, Academic (Engineering), in 1996 and Interim Dean of Continuing Education and Student Affairs in 1997.

Dean Gold regularly works as a consultant and advisor to diverse organizations such as law societies in Canada, Australia, India, Argentina, Singapore, England and Peru. He is regular consultant to the World Bank in Washington. He is a visiting scholar or consultant to universities across Canada, in South America, Asia, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.

He is married to Professor Mary Gold who is Chair of the Communications Studies program at the University of Windsor. The Golds live in Windsor where they pursue their personal interest in theatre and the arts.

Dr. Ron Barron is Interim Director of Research

Dr. Barron, currently Executive Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Research has been also assigned the position of Interim Director of Research, pending the search for and appointment of an Associate Vice-President, Research.

Dr. John Corlett Named Interim Administrative Dean

Dr. Corlett, Associate Dean for the College of Arts and Human Sciences, will be Interim Administrative Dean for Student and Academic Affairs/Registrar as well for the next few months. The University is currently conducting a search to fill the Administrative Dean Position.

Dr. Martha Reavley Named Interim Dean, Business Administration

Dr. Norman Solomon, Dean of Business Administration resigned on July 1, 1998 to take up a new position in the United States. Dr. Martha Reavley, Associate Dean has been appointed Interim Dean, until the search for a new dean is completed.

Dr. Ted Horvath is New Director - Instructional Development & Coordinator of Academic Computing

Psychology Professor Ted Horvath has been appointed the new Director of Instructional Development and Coordinator of Academic Computing.

One of the newer initiatives of the division, which is expected to expand in the months ahead, is the support of instructors using computerized and other electronic information as course materials for students.

Mr. Roger Lauzon New Director - Information Technology Services

Mr. Roger Lauzon formerly Assistant Director of Computing Services since 1991 and Co-Interim Director since June last year is now appointed as Director of Information Technology Services ( Currently known as Computing Services)

Ms Linda Urquhart Named Interim Registrar

Ms Urquhart currently Associate Registrar has been appointed Interim Registrar until the search for new Registrar is completed.

Ms. Margaret Landstrom Named Interim Director - Continuing Education

Ms Landstrom, Assistant Director has been appointed as Interim Director of Continuing Education, until the search for a new Director is completed.
