PURCHASING SERVICES

ANNOUNCES TRAVEL SERVICE INFORMATION

Purchasing Services has announced that, effective immediately, American Express Travel Service, located in the Roundhouse Centre on Howard Avenue (250-0222), is the preferred travel agency of the University of Windsor. In addition, American Express Corporate Cards will be issued to employees who incur expenses while travelling on behalf of the university.

Further information is being mailed across campus, detailing the benefits of using American Express and how to obtain your Corporate Card. Please contact Purchasing Services at ext. 2078.


JUDGES LOVED THE VIEW

VIEW, the University of Windsor Alumni Magazine has won the Silver Medal in the Best Magazine Category of the 1999 Prix D'Excellence Awards of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE). VIEW competed against university alumni magazines from across Canada for the honour. The alumni magazine, which underwent an extensive revamping in 1998, was cited by the CCAE judges for its "clean, well-designed look, interesting stories, and unique format," says Charlene Rooke, University of Calgary Alumni Magazine Editor, who coordinated the category's entries.. Dr. Paul is also VIEW's publisher.

VIEW is distributed by the Office of External Affairs three times a year to 54,000 of the university's alumni around the world.

The award was given at the CCAE national conference hosted by the Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, June 13 to 15.


APPOINTMENTS AND STAFF CHANGES

UNIVERSITY NAMES NEW

ASSOCIATE ACADEMIC VICE-PRESIDENT

Kinesiology Professor Michael Salter has been appointed Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs for a five-year term, effective July 1, 1999. The announcement was made by Vice President, Academic, Neil Gold, to whom Dr. Salter will report.

"Mike brings tremendous experience in administration and a deep knowledge of the university to the position," says Vice President Gold. "His appointment will benefit the university enormously as it moves in its new strategic direction." "This is a challenge that I very much look forward to," says Dr. Salter. "President Ross Paul has set forth an exciting path for the University of Windsor through 'The Best of Both Worlds,' and I am anxious to contribute."

In his new position, Dr. Salter will be responsible for international liaison, cyclical undergraduate program reviews, and will likely chair the Academic Policy Committee. The Australian-born Salter has a Diploma in Physical Education; Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Physical Education, and a PhD in the Physical Education & Anthropological Study of Play.

APPOINTMENTS FOR MAZER, MOGYORODY

Vice-President Academic Neil Gold has announced two recent appointments.

Law Professor Brian Mazer is the interim Dean of Faculty of Law, effective May 10. Dean Juanita Westmoreland-Traore has left the University of Windsor to accept an appointment to the bench in the province of Quebec.

Geography Professor Veronika Mogyorody has been named Director of the Division for Instructional Development. Dr. Mogyorody will also be Co-ordinator of Academic Computing for the period July 1 to June 30, 2000.

EXECUTIVE DEAN BRYAN FRYER RESIGNS

Dr. Bryan Fryer, Executive Dean, College of Engineering and Science resigned his position effective August 1, 1999. He was appointed Executive Dean July 1, 1997.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS WELCOMES NEW DIRECTOR

The appointment of Marilyn Hood as Director of Public Affairs has been announced by Senior Vice-President External Paul Cassano. Ms. Hood was selected following a national search to fill the position. She took her new post yesterday.

Dr. Cassano invites the campus to welcome Ms. Hood, who comes to the campus with a background in government and business. For the past ten years, she has operated her own consulting business, with clients in the financial sector, the environment and both the federal and provincial governments. Ms. Hood is a former communications advisor to the Attorney General of Ontario and a legislative assistant on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

As Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Hood will be coordinating campus news services, publications and promotions, marketing, community relations and other communications.

Dr. EMIILY CARASCO, Director, Human Rights Office completes her term of office as of June 30, 1999 and proceeds on Sabbatical and Administrative leave. At the conclusion of her leave period, she will return to Law Faculty as Professor. The Search is on to find a replacement for her.

Mr. ORVILLE HOUSER TAKES NEW POST IN HUMAN RESOURCES

Human Resources Director Jim Butler announced that Orville Houser joins Human Resources effective April 19. As the new Employee Relations Manager.

He is a graduate of the University of Windsor with degrees in Communication Studies and Education. He was first appointed as a Sessional Instructor in the Faculty of Education from 1976 to 1980. In 1980, Orville was appointed Assistant Registrar - Academic Programs in the Office of the Registrar and was promoted to Assistant Registrar - Admissions & Records in 1986. Orv was appointed Director, Student Awards in 1993, and most recently has been seconded for one year to the position of Special Project Co-ordinator in the Office of the Vice-President, Administration and Finance.

"Orville's experience and familiarity with the campus will be a great asset to Human Resources and we look forward to working with him," says Butler.
