Holiday Greetings to all fellow Retirees
I wish to extend my sincere greetings for the Holiday Season to fellow retirees, their spouses and to all associate members. I hope you will enjoy Christmas and the New Year 1999. My good wishes for all of you to remain healthy and in good cheer in 1999.
Your Editor Completes the Probation Period
With this issue 30 of the newsletter, I have completed my first year as the editor of the newsletter ( 5 issues 26-30). I must confess while I enjoyed putting the newsletter together, it certainly involves a lot of work including time-consuming jobs of folding, attaching labels, sealing the envelopes and putting the stamps before it goes in the mail. I have been busier in retirement than as an active faculty member, which seems to be a lingering complaint at home.
Contributions To Newsletter From Members
We have not received any contributions, information of retiree's activities or articles of interest from members for the newsletter. I hope in the new year there is a better participation rate.
Constitution Revision and Retirees Representation on Faculty Association Committees
It was a timely decision for the new Retirees' Executive to appoint a Sub-Committee to revise the Constitution in light of the evolving role of the Retirees Association. The revisions have taken into account the resolutions adopted at the Spring General Meeting and the mandate from the membership to achieve our objectives of proper representation on various University and Faculty Association Committees. We have to make a strong case to the Faculty Association. We will continue to follow it up.
Membership In The Association
As our President Stan Cunningham said in his message that we will soon reach the 300 figure for the Retirees and it is imperative that all retirees become members and strengthen the organization. The Retirees' Association Executive Committee is working very hard, on your behalf, on the various issues dealing with pensions and benefits. We need the solidarity and strength in numbers and your encouragement and support is essential.

| The Association
The Retirees' Association (Faculty, Librarian, Administrator) at Windsor was formed in 1990, to give a unified voice to retirees; to provide a bridge for communication with the University; to encourage social contact among the retirees; and to open a few doors through which retirees could continue to contribute to the University of Windsor. Thus the Association is meant to fill what could otherwise be a void in the lives of retirees - possible isolation from the University and from their former colleagues; and possible lack of understanding of vital pension and health issues that affect them directly. There are only two meetings of the full membership per year: in the spring and the fall. An informal social committee arranges several other events per year - dinners, plays, picnics, and so on -all of which are paid for by those who take part. The Association encourages smaller special interest groups to form as occasion and their interests warrant. Because of extreme economy of operation, dues have been kept at the level of $10 per year. This includes five issues of The Retirees' Newsletter. Officers of the Association are: President: Stan Cunningham Secretary: Datta Pillay Treasurer & Membership: Phyllis Nolan Elected Members of the Executive Committee: Bob Chandler; Joseph Habowsky, Alan Metcalfe and Gerard Monforton Ex Officio Members: Immediate Past President: Kumar Chatterjee Founding President: Norm Shklov Committee Chairs: Social Committee: John LaGaipa Bursary Fund Committee: Cormac Smith The Association's Address is: Faculty/Librarian Retirees' Association, Email: pillay@server.uwindsor.ca Home Page: http://www.uwindsor.ca/newsstnd/uwflra/index.html Newsletter online: http://www.uwindsor.ca/newsstnd/uwflra/news.htm |
