ASSOCATION'S NEW EXECUTIVE NOW IN PLACE
At the conclusion of the Annual Spring Meeting on March 23rd, the new executive of the Association formally assumed office.
The Executive now consists of Ed Habib, President; Bill Libby, Secretary Treasurer; and two Elected Members, David Booth and Bob Whitehurst.
In addition to the above four members, two persons who were members of
the former Executive Committee remain on the new committee, ex officio -
the immediate past President, Norm Shklov, and the editor of The
Newsletter. The latter position is currently filled by Bill Phillips.
Edwin Habib: (Department of Physics). Born Trinidad, 1927. Hons. B.Sc. Birmingham, England, in Physics. Emigrated to Canada 1955, to McMaster University for Ph.D. degree in Nuclear Physics. At McMaster, met wife Barbara, on scholarship from Germany. Joined Physics Dept at Windsor. Involved in the formation of the Faculty Assoc'n. President of the Assoc'n in 1964 and again in 1991-93. Sabbaticals at Max Planck Inst., U. of Heidelberg and at TRIUMF in Vancouver. Two daughters, Daphne (a Waterloo graduate in Architecture practising in Toronto) and Sylvia (a Windsor M.A. in Pol Sci.), also in Toronto. Barbara works as a Librarian for Holy Redeemer College.
William L. Libby: (Department of Psychology). Educated at Harvard (A.B.'48) and Chicago (M.B.A.'58, and Ph.D.'64). Served with U.S. Military Govt. Germany, USAF [Human Resources], US Army, Trieste, FTT. Major research published as Pupillary and Cardiac acticity during visual attention, Psychophysiology, 1973. Since 1969, has become increasingly interested in the study of the future, esp. as reflected in people's perceptions, on which he has presented papers to the World Future Society and the Canadian Psychological Association. Presently writing book on the first 15 days of the Chernobyl disaster as reported in press of central Europe Married Carol Boeke in 1970, and they have a daughter Theresa and a granddaughter Danielle.
David Booth: (Department of Sociology and Anthropology). Educated at Chicago (B.A.), Illinois (M.A.), and Northwestern (Ph.D.). Since 1963, David and his wife Ruth have taught at Wayne State University and Oakland University. David spent a year in Washington at the Office of Education, and studied universities for a year on a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan. He joined the Department of Sociology at Windsor in 1970. He has taken a special interest in educational reform and the better management of academic departments. His main interests are bird-watching, music and politics. He and his wife Ruth have two children - Donald (with two daughters) living in Toronto, and Tamara, living in Montreal.
Robert N. Whitehurst: (Department of Sociology and Anthropology). Raised in Indiana. US Navy Pilot in WWII. Several subsequent years in commercial flying and sales work. Educated at Butler University (B.A. in education and sociology, 1959), and Purdue University (M.A., 1961, Ph.D, 1963) in marriage and family therapy and social psychology. Taught at Bowling Green State University, Brooklyn College and Indiana University, joining the University of Windsor in 1969. He retired in 1988 as Emeritus Professor in Sociology. He is married to Jean, and they have two sons, David and Mark.
