The Star Trek television series of the 1960s is an excellent example of how
science and technology can influence the media. Star Trek was
created at a time when people were beginning to physically explore their
solar system. The long awaited goal of astronauts walking on the moon
were finally being realized.
The technological advancements of the 1960s were finding
their way into television series. For example, personal computers were
being used by the crew of the Enterprise long before the general public
had personal computers. Many Star Trek fans have claimed that Star
Trek has had an influence on reality. Recently a simpler version of
a tricorder has been released for sale to the public. A tricorder was
used on Star Trek as a sensing devise. To beam to a Star Trek site near you
